When she lobbied the WBC for this i'm pretty sure it was before the announcement of PBC. She probably underestimated the sort of capital backing Haymon was going to get for his venture.
Pretty much.
Duva lobbied in December, the PBC "time buy" news came in January.
Even the early estimates of investors with $100 million weren't big enough, as the reports are his investors are willing to lose multiples of that.
Not surprising. HBO have got Duva by the **** hairs here. They have a contract for Kovalev to fight on their network and they dont want him taken away for his biggest fight due to losing bid, and they dont want to pay ****** money to compete with Uncle Al.
Still confused about why they would go for purse bids in the first though
because Main Events spent so much time online, reading blogs, that they honestly believed that Stevenson would rather vacate his belt than fight Kovalev, out of utter fear.
once they realized Stevenson wasn't running away and his promoter was backing his man with real dollars, Duva ran to HBO as quick as she could (unless she's an abject lair, the Pascal fight was the last one on the deal and, even if the move triggered some kind of fight option, Kovalev was going to fight Mohammedi before the Stevenson fight anyway)
and Kovalev fights whom? His IBF mandatory, maybe Chilemba, and then what? for **** money too, since Kovalev still isn't much of a ticket seller on his own.
Stevenson has the lineal championship, is now in a position where his camp called Main Event's bluff and Kovalev is left looking like a chump. "Superman" continues to fight in Montreal, with fights aired stateside over the PBC platforms and with better opponent options than Kovalev, while always having that ***** card of a Stevenson-Bute fight in his pocket (let alone Stevenson-Pascal still having value, barring Pascal picking up a few wins).
Stevenson will continue to get bigger purses (as long as he's champion), will be in more meaningful fights, and will laugh as Kovalev looks to convince viewers that Dominic Boesel (WBO#1 challenger) from some 5,000 seater in Jersey is worth their attention.
Like Sukhotsky and Bika? Its all very well talking about Stevenson's great options but what use are they if he doesn't fight any of them?
The next meaningful fight Stevenson will be in is probably Chilemba since that is his mandatory.

Main Events wanted to make the fight in late 2013, in early 2014 and now in 2015, they didn't want Stevenson to vacate but Kovalev crossing networks was never part of their plan.
So Duva says 50/50 or no fight??? so why demand a purse bid to begin with?
Because PBC will pay more...
50/50 of what amount? Is it 5 mil? In a purse bid they could get 7 or 8 mil 50/50..
It's obvious hbo and duva won't be able to match the offer Haymon puts together.. So in reality, duva wants kovolev to take less of a payday because she can't pay them as much as PBC
