The way the fight gets made at this point in time is Team Stevenson coming to terms with Main Events to put it on HBO, it's clear from the information provided that it's not happening any other way.
I'm not worried about the money at all, but ALL fighters want $. The way the fight gets made is a purse bid and live with the outcome. Like all other fights that can't get made. You made like 10 excuses in this thread. Do you not want the fight? They could do 50/50 on YouTube, no HBO or showtime! Problem solved

I can see both sides here.

Main Events wants it on HBO because Kovalev signed a long term deal. He's secured financially win or lose because he'll be guaranteed more fights down the line on the network. So fighting on HBO is a must for them.

But you can also see GYM's side as well. If HBO isn't willing to up the most money for the fight then why should they go over there? Especially since Adonis doesn't have a long term deal with them, or anyone it seems, and is a free agent.

For this to get resolved, HBO has to show some commitment. They have to put up some big money for this fight to please both sides. I'm think around $10M, and have them split the purse 50/50.

Dream on. They still have the best talent.

Time will tell on that but at the moment I really think Kovalev is in the weaker position because I don't know who he can fight. I'm pretty sure the top contenders right now are all with Haymon: Alvarez, Beterbiev, Fonfara, Oosthuizen, Monaghan
Depends who it is I guess. Not holding breath of him matching them with Stevenson though, he appears to have chosen the easy opponent route.

Top guy in the WBC rankings is Chilemba now which makes it interesting if Kovalev-Stevenson isn't made.

Down the line Kovalev may be faced with vacating or crossing networks which he may not be able to do given an exclusivity agreement.

That's not how most fights are made, and it's definitely not how fights are made when one side has an exclusive contract with a network which is the situation right now.

It's like the people who wanted Pacquiao to take a flat $40 million, fight on Showtime and sign with Mayweather Promotions. You not only have to chase the fight, you have to bend over backwards for the other side and fight on their promotion and network. Stevenson is no Mayweather level draw either.

Problem is, HBO's had their boxing budget reduced after years of getting ****d by Al Haymon.

                  Yep.

Quackenson is a disgrace in Quebec.

... Adonis wants to maximise the money?
It's simple: sell the 20,000 seats in the Bell Centre, make it PPV on both HBO and Showtime.
... But Haymon rather wants Adonis to fight Bute, right?

The difference right now is HBO is presumably paying market prices, and Haymon isn't.

When you've got investors who are willing to lose hundreds of millions of dollars, you can overpay.

Michel wants a purse bid, Duva wants a negotiation...and neither are budging.

I don't see why Michel can't meeting with HBO and Main Events, hear their offer...he can always say "I heard their offer, it's 1/3 of what we can get on the PBC or SHO." That would put more pressure on HBO to let the fight happen.

Not that I think it would change things, because HBO and the PBC are competitors.
