Did they use to have the judges scores after every round?

I was watching Hearns/Leonard and noticed that they had the judges scores after every round. Did they really do that back then?

I know they don't do it anymore because of the suspense and all that but I think I would rather know how the judges have it after each round

It definately would be better. Less judges would be up for "robberies" then because it would get far more obvious.
I get your point concerning 'suspense', but only when the fights are really close. Would have been great to see Lewis - Holyfield I with live scores ...

like what was said, in a way yes, in a way no ..one of my favorite fights seen live was James Toney vs Vasily Jirov which the whole time i thought Toney was going to lose until the knockdown in the last round ..and if i remember right the judges had him ahead anyways by a few points ...so i wouldnt want it for that, it made the fight great not knowing ...

I don't recall seeing the scorecards after each round when I saw the fight all those many years back.

You're right, the only reason you saw the scores is because sometimes when HBO re-airs the fights they show the scores after each round. Only because they have them afterwards not during the fight.

I think it would make fights more exciting in general if the fighters knew the scores during the first 9 rounds of a championship fight, not to mention less robberies too.

no i would rather not see them during the fight. alot of excitement in boxing is not knowing who is winning. i mean you can score the fight yourself like i do. but i also scored hopkins to beat taylor in the first match and look what happend. its not that exciting if you see the fighter winning. yes it would bring down the robbery but the suspence is what makes boxing so great as well. very good points in this thread though i really like this topic.

How about a mix of both? Keep the score cards away from the audience but reveal it to the trainers so they know when their fighter is behind, up against biased judging and up the ante to go for the KO, or use a different strategy when they know their fighter is ahead on points.

Yeah, it would be interesting to see if people would really step it up in those last few rounds knowing that the pressure was on. Could make some boring fights turn interesting.

No, they use to turn in scorecards for each round back in the day, and the announcers could tell the audience if they felt like it.
