  • Comments Thread For: Paul Smith on Andre Ward Shot: I Proved That I Belong!

Paul Smith will be hoping it is a case of third time lucky after he was handed a world title shot against WBA champion Andre Ward.

The Liverpool super middleweight will return to the ring for his third straight world title shot when he faces the undefeated American on June 20.

Smith, 35-5 (20 KO’s), suffered back-to-back defeats against WBO champion Arthur Abraham in his last two fights but the 35-year-old is itching to bet back in the ring.

"I cannot wait to get back in the ring and test myself against a class act like Andre Ward," said Smith.

Coming off back-to-back defeats to probably the division's most limited champion....the second of which was extremely one-sided...er, belong where? Paul Smith isn't even the best super middleweight in his nuclear family.

True, but you have to like his attitude and he´ll probably give Ward 12 much needed rounds.

After beating Smith Ward should turn right back around and fight sometime in the summer.

I think he's just happy to get a payday to be honest, he'll know deep down he isn't in Ward's league. Not a fan of fights where the outcome is a complete formality like this one. Don't bank on 12 rounds either, remember Groves sparked Smith in two and DeGale stopped him too.

The division's "most limited champion" is the #2 SMW in the world according to the RING, TBRB, ESPN, Boxing Scene, etc etc etc.

Smith didn't even belong in the ring with DeGale or Groves

The RING still has Jermaine Taylor rated as the number 7 middleweight in the world.
