Cmon now Snake Venom. Kovalev is the #1 contender to the lineal title. He isn't the king of the division. It would be like arguing Stevenson was allowed to do this because he was the king before Kov beat Bhop and Pascal.

HBO doesnt want to put the money into it.

If they were prepared to do so they would have gone and won the purse bid.

To be honest, this fight is not PPV material. Kovalev and Stevenson do not have a huge US fan base.

Like I said earlier, it was the purse bid being called before Kovalev's mandatory against Najib Mohammedi that scared Duva off.

In his reply to Duva's counter offer, Yvon Michel asked her to tell him how much HBO were willing to pay for the TV rights so he could compare it it showtime.

So now I'm thinking, maybe she doesn't have that info yet because HBO don't want to commit themselves to backing Duva's bid until AFTER Kovalev fights Mohammedi, because of the possibility that he might lose. It's unlikely, I know, but upsets do happen in boxing.

So where would that leave HBO, if they bought the rights to screen Kovalev vs Stevenson, and Mohammedi ended up fighting Adonis instead of Krusher?

If anybody knows the answer to that question, please tell me.

They want the fight on HBO, cause that's what HBO wants. It would mean less money than if it went to purse bid but that probably means burning bridges with HBO. Stevenson hasn't done well away from HBO, pathetic ratings for Fonfara, Sukhotsky and Bika
