Comments Thread For: WBO Shoots Down Kameda-McDonnell Unification

The below letter was issued by the World Boxing Organization to the management of WBO bantamweight champion Tomoki Kameda - rejecting his request to have a unification with Jamie McDonell, because he is only the WBA "regular" champion - which they (any many experts) consider a secondary world title because the recognized WBA champion of the division is Juan Carlos Payano, who unseated longtime champion Chemito Moreno.

The WBA's insistence to have numerous world titles within a single weight division has caused confusion among fans for the last few years.

Kameda vs. McDonnell is scheduled to take place on May 9th as part of a Premier Boxing Champions card in Texas.

No one cares what the WBO says or thinks.

Nobody cares about these worthless belts. But this is a good fight between two legit top ten guys. How often do we see a quality matchup at bantamweight?

So not only does the he WBO refuse to properly work with the other Organizations but they further alienate their champions by refusing to allow unifications?

They did the same with Pirog, at least they're consistent in this manner

They join the WBC in that regards. Maybe this is the start of the cold war of boxing commissions.

The WBC is okay with Unifications now though. The WBO needs to be replaced by the IBO.

Not really surprised tbh, the WBO is a bum organisation in the world of sanctioning bodies. After all, it is in their name, the WBO, aka the World Bum Organisation.

Okay so this fight may not be as significant as Yamanaka VS Payano, but it's still a good contest I'd like to see. Don't forget McDonnell never lost his IBF title in the ring!
