Running around is not a gameplan. His best moments were when he fought like himself

When you stand and trade with an equally tough guy you risk getting KO yourself. When that's your only tool then fine, go nuts, but when you have the skill to punch the crap out your opponent while not getting hit much yourself that's exactly what you should do. Look at the face on both guys, I know its no way to measure boxing but it does tell a story. Matthysse just had a bit of swelling in one eye while Provo looked as if he had been hit by a truck. I know he swells up easily, but Matthysse was using his face as a punching bag for most of the fight. At times it was sick to watch. Check some of those HD photos out there.

provodnikov is totally useless. . wtf does he bring to the table except a chin to block punches with. the guy has no jab, no head movement, no nothing.. just a complete garbage can. mathysse obliterated that fool. i know during the build up ruslan was expecting to face a punching bag just like himself, but Lucas lit him up with exceptional boxing skills. good work.

this fight showed the versatility of lucas, you can bet nobody is rushing to face him now after proving he's more than a punching bag brawler.

ruslan moves his head, actually he moves it quite a bit, but there's a problem w/ it

he moves it in a predictable rhythm, there's no cadence and matthysse just timed it when he moved it back into the previous spot

he did later on start doing a more random movement but he also would just stand squared up and not move it at all

if he fought more like shawn porter dude would be ridiculous

He left himself so open when throwing shots from the outside, and thats where I saw him take his biggest shots. Inside he barely got hit clean IIRC.

Tough fight to call...... Have to go with Matthysse though because I think he has a lil more boxing to go with his power while Provo is come forward and **** out but take bombs in the process. If Matthysse can stand the pressure and barrage then he wins.

How is boxing smart and using a jab a bad game plan? Why would he stand there and get pounded on just to please the fans? Fight was still pretty damn good and Matthysse did an good job controlling the pace and landing his punches. At least Matthysse can actually adjust and switch his game plan up to win minimizing the punishment he gets. Many fighters can't even step out they're style to be effective and win. This only tells me that Matthysse can improve.

Not really. They kept telling him he was way ahead and to play it safe. If his hand was hurt that makes more sense, but it was still the wrong thing to say.
