Damn, give Cotto his respect. He hit Sergio so hard to the temple in round one, that Sergio's meniscus began to tear and he began to consider retirement right then and there.
Bitter sweet for me. I loved watching Martinez in his very short prime where he was dominating every mw that was put in front of him, with his 'hand down slipping/juking offense defense' style. His style was really fun to watch as well as his vicious knockouts.
I would've liked to see him have a farewell fight against a Brian Vera kind of opponent, but if his body won't let 'em, then best to retire.
I watched the ''Maravilla' documentary on Netflix the other day. Amazing what he achieved having started so late.
Very respectable champ, and fought everyone he could except for maybe ggg. But with injuries and ggg only judt coming on to the scene as Martinez was looking to get out with a payday, its understandable.
I remember reading that Martinez' earnings outside boxing are greater than what he earns inside the ring, hopefully he can continue on that path and stay wealthy.
Cong**** to Maravilla on an outstanding career. A great guy in the ring and out. If he'd risen to the top a little sooner, we'd be talking Hall of Fame.
I'd be severely disappointed if he continued to fight. Props for not pulling out of the Cotto fight but he best recognise that he has no legs and cannot continue to box. Same that such a talent is going to be suffering for the rest of his life because of his trade. Way she goes though.
He must have some terrible surgeons too because these types of injuries are VERY common in MMA and those guys always seem to come back from these sorta injuries. Look at GSP, he's had it on both knees now ACLs.

He did come back a few times from those injuries, but it catches up to you, especially coming up to his 40's.
