Comments Thread For: Roach: Pacquiao's Shots Hurting Me, Floyd is in Trouble!

Manny Pacquiao’s trainer has revealed part of the Filipino’s strategy for the fight against Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas on May 2.

"Mayweather is a counter puncher and we have to attack really quick and get out really quick," Freddie Roach said in Hollywood on Wednesday.

“We can't stay in the pocket too long. We know the game plan; we know how to beat this guy."

Roach rejected allegations by Mayweather that his fighter was reckless. "Manny is not reckless at all," said Roach, who has worked with 31 world champions in his Wild Card gym. "Everything we do is planned out and it's part of the game plan.

Roachs comments got me su****ious. What 36 yr old punches faster and harder than they ever have before. Hmmm. PAC gets no credit if he wins, clearly back on the roids

Manny only knows one-way to fight and it has been his trademark since day one. Roach talking all this strategy won't amount to any changes in Manny's behavior in the ring. Anyone that believes that nonsense is on that strong kool-aid.

Only one of the two fighters meeting on May 2nd has the ability to execute a strategy, while the other one is purely reactionary.

Roach can play the genghis khan card while doing interviews, all he wants. We will see the same Manny, with the same faults and mistakes charging in to meet every counter-punch face-first.

Manny can win but its going to much harder for him to impose his advantages than it will be for Floyd to. Pac is going to have to take chances, be busy, find ways to stretch out Floyd's defensive lulls that he has in rds where he isn't doing anything offensive. He can't become cautious or start thinking too much.

You know Mayweather's camp has been saying almost the exact same thing right......or did I just miss the sarcasm in your post?

Newsflash! You cannot have your chin tucked with your arms protecting it at all times if you want to win a fight. In order to actually fight and score, everyone opens up and it just so happens that pacquiao throws at least 700 punches a fight, for which you can probably find hundreds of clips of pacquiaos supposed technical flaws. Also in order to throw his punches as hard as he does requires him to try to hit through his target instead of at his target like mayweather does. This means that sometimes he will only have one foot on the ground while trying to get his short arms through his opponents chin. Usually he has massive success using these exact tactics every fight, the Marquez punch was one in a million because Marquez was taking peds from memo. Floyd doesn't have the power to Ko pacquiao, and even if he did he would put himself in grave danger of getting iced so therefore this is a usual mayweather fight where he runs and pot shots while Manny attacks. Floyd will not have an answer for the power, speed, footwork, combination punching from different angles, all these attributes working together at the exact same time makes pacquiao way more dangerous than mayweather.

Pacquiao's defence and footwork are terrible. His speed and power (at the lower weights) along with the right opponents won him fights. Pacquiao hasn't faced many counter punchers and the only good one knocked him out, he's about to step in to the ring with one of the best ever.
