Absolutely !
It has been obvious for the longest time that Mayweather is considering retirement..... he has mentioned it on numerous occasions during the last couple of years..... and he first mentioned retiring at 49-0 about a decade ago, maybe longer.
Khan / Thurman / Garcia have ALL had time to position themselves for that fight, they have ALL had the chance..... they needed to get relevant, and they needed to fit in with the champs schedule..... they did nothing.
They all had a chance to be the one..... Khan has wasted fights, Garcia has wasted fights, Thurman has wasted fights..... none of them deserve it!
But, I think that Mayweathers last opponent may possibly be Garcia.Comment

True !
I forgot about Cotto, that is actually the most likely scenario, I think they may have already discussed it.
I cant see anyone at 154, and Mayweather will likely fight Garcia if his last fight is at 147.
Im not interested in either Cotto or Garcia, but not sure who else is up for it.Comment

Of course it would, but you know that is highly unlikely to happen. While I do not agree with your comment about the lineal MW title having lost substance, relative to your response to Pigeons, would a defense against GGG would restore any credibility or stature the MW lineal title has lost in the eyes of fans?
Assuming this happens and the fight isn't fought below say 157 (weight ODH fought BHop).
Mayweather himself said that he has 1 fight left after Pacquiao, and even if he does choose to fight on, it is highly unlikely that he would fight Golovkin..... nor should he be expected to, he is clearly not a middleweight.
In regards to the " lineal MW title having lost substance"..... I dont think thats the case, although the current GGG/Cotto situation has not helped. I think it is more accurate to say that lineal titles period, have lost their lustre.
You know as well as I do that the lineal champ is OFTEN not the best guy in the division.
Regarding middleweight.....
Hopkins
Taylor
Pavlik
Martinez
Cotto
During that line of succession, not one of those lineal champs was the best in the division..... some got beaten TWICE, some got beaten up, some got stopped.
Middleweight is a terrible division to use if looking for an example as to why "lineage" is important/relevant, because it really isnt.Comment
