Mayweather plans to fight one more time, on September 12th, to satisfy his CBS/Showtime contract. After that, he plans to retire.

Sadly he wont be missed. Great defensive fighter but he didn't engage, take risks or take challenges.

Would be cool if he fought Cotto at MW. He'd be going for his 12th world title over 6 weight classes and his 6th lineal title over 5 weight classes. All while remaining undefeated throughout. That would be unreal.

Fighting a fighter you already beat comprehensively, at probably 1 pound higher, wow really impressive.

The lineal title at MW currently doesn't follow consensus best, and so it has very little substance. If you want to limit your view on boxing by deliberately taking lineal titles at face value alone, fair enough.

I wouldn't expect others to take such a narrow-minded view though. Cotto-Mayweather 2 honestly does nothing to Mayweathers legacy other than add some hollow eye-candy with the lineal MW title.

If this happens and he beats Cotto, I want to see Floyd defend the MW title against GGG back on HBO PPV and then call it quits.
          I agree

Though I don't really have an 'ideally' as to who wins over Manny and Floyd, I just want the best man to win

But if Floyd does win, that would be a great end to a career.

While I do not agree with your comment about the lineal MW title having lost substance, relative to your response to Pigeons, would a defense against GGG would restore any credibility or stature the MW lineal title has lost in the eyes of fans?

Assuming this happens and the fight isn't fought below say 157 (weight ODH fought BHop).

Yes of course. If the lineal title reflects some form of consensus, then its a pretty legitimate title. Beating GGG would do that

Right now, the lineal title at MW is just like any other title. Cotto won it from the person who held it. The lineage stretched that far back, alongside Martinez's performance against Murray and his injuries, that it lost so much lustre.

I honestly can't see any possible advantage of taking lineal titles at face value alone

Not a fanboy kid like you. you defend the baffoon all the time. I dont feel a need to defend anyone unless its coming from a biased poster with only one way of thinking.

Ive bee here when Pac was ktfo, when other of fighters i liked lost. Difference is that you worship and dam.n near suck off a guy youve never met.

It would be Mayweather's 6th weight class. It would be for accomplishment only, the cherry on top. No one would consider him the kingpin at MW, it would just be for posterity. I'm rooting for it, but the fight is unlikely to happen for a number of reasons.
