Manny must be catching that work from Kenny and the rest of his sparring partners

I'm just glad Manny got his rest. At this age and mileage, over training is your worst enemy. You've seen this from guys like Duncan and Kobe, for example.

Duncan has looked a lot better than Kobe despite being older. Popovich stressed resting and it has pay dividends. Kobe, being the gym rat that he is looks drained in most occasions and this is before the achilles injury.

Hatton peaked a week or two before fighting Floyd, he looked absolutely ripped and then come fight night he looked terrible. The herpes outbreak didn't help either

I wd guess Roach knows what he's doing

Guys get injured during the season in basketball, nothing life threatening just some rest does an old guy well.
Not really IMO. The bags and that other stuff you can skip out on if you're sparring at the very least. I could see missing a day or two, but a whole week of no sparring is weird.

And I don't believe it's comparable to those other sports because ball players are on the move for what 8 or 9 months? A boxing camp is 2-3 months and then a long break after so every missed day of training is under the magnifying glass.

Basketball players warm up and play for 45 minutes. Training for boxing is 100x's more grueling, it's not even comparable. Sparring is unnecessary for experienced fighters it takes a lot out of them, but more importantly they know what to do in the ring already. Missing 20 rounds of sparring isn't going to hurt anything at all.

I don't disagree with boxing training being more grueling than most. Especially since better fighters don't spar absolute scrubs to get ready. I don't see the break analogy being comparable at all because of the long break fighters get are the light at the end of the tunnel, compared to lower intensity running and jogging around that ball players do, but over a much longer period and obviously hell on the legs and knees(especially older players).

I remember Heredia saying that peak high intensity athletic training like boxers do are detrimental to an extent, but because no boxer in training likes the nagging feeling of their opponent working while they are breaking they push through. I don't disagree that short breaks are necessary, but a week of missed sparring when they are supposed to be heating up around this time is too long to me.

Why are you guys worrying??? Injury or not, the fight's going down, no matter what. If you over think something like this, you'll go crazy. The fights out of our hands, and in theirs. Just sit back, and enjoy.
