  • Comments Thread For: Danny Garcia Open To Staying at 140, Making Defense

WBC/WBA junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia (30-0, 17KOs) is still open to the idea of remaining at 140-pounds to defend his world titles. Garcia was in action last Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. He fought IBF champion Lamont Peterson in 143-pound catch-weight bout and won a close twelve round majority decision.

This was the second fight in a row for Garcia at a contract weight above the junior welterweight limit. Garcia admits that he drains himself to make the weight limit, and he'll be a lot stronger at the welterweight limit of 147-pounds - but if everyone wants him to remain at junior welterweight to defend the belt - then that's what he'll do.

He better be, he won't beat any decent WW's if he can't get by Peterson. I know he won, I think he probably won more rounds but it's because Lamont gave up too many rounds too early. The next guy to fight Danny won't make that mistake.

Not everyone is going to fight like Peterson did and if the weight is draining him then staying at 140 is the wrong move time to move up who cares if he loses rather him lose to somebody at his best at 147 than lose cause he is weight drained at 140

His last fight wasn't even @ 140. He should just move up already.

Danny wasn't the bigger guy last night, he never would be at 147. If you take away Danny's power he is a C class fighter at best, he's crap. He wouldn't be favored against the top 10 WW, if he wants to make money he needs to stay at 140. You really think Danny is going to win a war against Rios, Maidana or Manny? You think he'll be able to cut off the ring and box with Bradley, Mayweather? What about Brook? What about Thurman? That's 7 names and I haven't even looked up the rankings, who knows if he'd even beat Khan again. Until you start talking Shawn Porter he loses each of those fights... 140 or bust for Danny, he's not a good enough fighter.

Did he finally realize he isnt gonna make it at 147? I wonder if Daddy Garcia also changed his tune about next fight being at 147.

So much for 147 by the summer. Maybe he DID mean NEXT summer as the article title mentioned.

I don't think Garcia would be able to beat Brook or Thurman, not to mention Mayweather and Pacquiao at 147. Now the likes of Bradley, Rios, Khan, Alexander, etc. are all winnable fights for Swift.

But he may as well move up. If he stays at 140 he's gonna have to face Terence Crawford and that's a guy he cannot beat IMO.

^Garcia doesn't neccessarily have to face Crawford

yeah I don't get it, Danny said that even at the higher weight vs Peterson it impacted his performance ... why remain at 140 if it's such a drain?

I mean if Garcia stays in training shape post Peterson maybe taking the weight off will be easier for his next fight

Garcia is done. Even Broner beats him. Most likely he will drop the titles and move to 147 in search of the holy paycheck. Mayweather vs Garcia in September. "Somebodys' 0 has got to go"
