Comments Thread For: Peterson Defends Strategy, Will 'Live With The Results'

NEW YORK – Lamont Peterson spent more time defending his strategy Sunday morning than he did dis*****g the judges’ scoring following his majority decision defeat to Danny Garcia.

Peterson doesn’t think he should’ve been more aggressive earlier in their 12-round fight and doesn’t feel as though he gave away too many early rounds Saturday night at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. The Washington, D.C., native contended he simply stuck with his game plan to wear down his opponent and began attacking Garcia at the appropriate time.

Well put... You had a great game plan and executed it to a T you just came up a tiny bit short. Had you started earlier you win... Or possibly get KO'd.
But the fix wasn't in... The judges gave you credit for the rounds you deserved to win. You just started a little too late. Nothing to be ashamed about as far as this performance is concerned.

I agree completely, and it seems as If Peterson does as well. It's a double edged sword though with people saying he should've came forward earlier and possibly risk getting knocked out.

Good plan, just a couple rounds too late before the attack came. If he had started too early, Swift woulda put him to sleep. I think Pete deserves a rematch.

I could've lived with a draw, but not a victory for Garcia. I would like to see Peterson move up and fight Berto, or stay at 140 and fight Amir Imam.

Mature response from Peterson but I don't agree with him.

The strategy was fine, it was just poorly implemented. He need to be more active while he was dancing around, and take the fight to Garcia a couple rounds earlier.

Yeah I agree. You can still win rounds riding a bike. Dudes do it all the time. Including one whom currently reigns on top of the P4P list.

But you have to sprinkle in some offense in spots. And not just range finding jabs, lmao. Peterson seemed completely content on just purely riding his bike and giving away rounds.

I don't agree with this. Peterson was in complete control when he took it to him.
If he had of taken it to him earlier he would of won....not get ko'd!!

Well I think when people say that Lamont gave rounds away they are actually giving credit to his strategy, it's that they feel he didn't take full advantage of the good position he was putting himself in.

In those close rounds..mainly 1-4-5...he didn't have to do a lot in the position he was, but (to me) he failed to do the minimum of what I would have required to give him the round. I don't feel like I was asking for a lot. I just couldn't give him the round or two that turned out to be the difference. [ I had 115-113 btw]

In those rounds, it was basically the feeling I get when I watch Lara....it's like damn man I wanted to give you the round bad based on ring generalship... but you didn't throw. Even just one small sequence would have swayed me

Part of the ring generalship criterion is to take advantage of situations.
