  • Comments Thread For: Analyzing the Andy Lee-Peter Quillin Scorecards

One school of thought is that Andy Lee’s seventh-round knockdown of Peter Quillin this past Saturday provded to be the difference between him losing and the actual result of a split draw.

But even with that knockdown, there is one other thing that proved to be the difference between a draw and a defeat — how judge Glenn Feldman scored the third round, in which Quillin scored his second knockdown on Lee of the evening.

Feldman had it 10-9 for Quillin, while judges Guido Cavalleri and Eric Marlinski had it 10-8.

Cavalleri’s final scorecard was 113-112 for Lee. Marlinski’s final scorecard was 113-112 for Quillin. Feldman was the judge who had it a 113-113 draw. And if Feldman had given a 10-8 score to Quillin for the third instead of a 10-9, he would’ve had Quillin ahead at the end by a score of 113-112, giving Quillin the split decision victory.

Ref could have also ruled the KD in round 3 a slip, which would have won Lee the fight.

I have no problem with a draw. That was the perfect verdict for this fight

But how does it make sense to score that round 10-9?

To be fair, some refs might have called a second knockdown at the end of the first. Or even stopped Lee. Quillin got a break with the trip, but I don't think Lee was hard done by overall.

I scored it 114-112 Quillin. Scored round 4 even because literally no one threw a ****ing punch. Two knowdowns for Peter, one for Lee. It shouldn't have been this hard for Quillin, all he had to do was be a tiny bit more aggressive and he would have won clean, but he was too scared to engage for whatever reasons (I guess he did feel Lee's power after all, shown by him getting dropped). I guess Haymon forgot to give two of the judges their checks, was hella surprised it was a draw. Haymon fighters usually always get the decision so it was kind if refreshing to see, even if I didn't agree with the draw.

Anyways, they both fought like ****. Will not watch again, one star rating.

An incompetent ref would have, sure.

But if the ref would have made the right call and not rule that slip a knockdown it's very possible Lee would have won the round and ultimately won the fight.

But the draw was the best decision.
