Comments Thread For: Kell Brook-Frankie Gavin Looms For O2 on May 30?

According to the Sheffield Star, Frankie Gavin (22-1, 13KOs) has become the frontrunner to face IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (34-0, 23KOs) on a date of May 30th from the O2 Arena.

Gavin, who won three in a row since suffering his first career defeat to Leonard Bundu last August, fought on Brook's undercard on March 28th at the Motorpoint Arena and defeated Bogdan Mitic over ten rounds.

Both boxers are promoted by Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Sport. If a deal is finalized, it places a question mark on Gavin's scheduled fight against Chris Van Heerden, for the IBF International title, on May 9th in Birmingham.

great match-up against a top contender and former ammatuer star, who is bursting onto the world stage.

Great to see Brook as a fighting champion who will defend his belt against whoever they put in front of him, anytime of the year.

What does Brook achieve by fighting Gavin? Thurman has already said he would love to fight Brook!

And why are the IBF ordering Khan and Gavin to fight Bradley for the right to fight Brook, when both can get a fight with Brook without an eliminator.

The IBF should order Bradley to fight Thurman, and Brook ordered to fight the winner of the two. Otherwise you will get Brook fighting nobodies whilst calling out Khan in between crap fights!

When was the last time Mayweather or pacquiao had to face a mandatory challenger?

Brook has just fulfilled his mandatory obligations. He's having to fight a dangerous, highly ranked competitor in Gavin because he wants to stay active.

People don't complain when GGG does it so what's the difference with Brook?
