I can only imagine what this forum will be like if in 2-3 years for now PBC starts taking off. Anyone with a brain knows it wont be huge from the ****ing get go. Only the haters expect that. Im just really interested in how broken these guys will be if it turns out big in the long run..Last edited by bigdunny1; 04-08-2015, 09:57 AM.Comment

Not true. You look at what UFC did on network tv and other startups that overspent and had a huge media blitz to start and the trend is they get big ratings early on then level off. The take it slow and build as you go along approach would of been better for Haymon but he's not spending slowly. He went all out for that first NBC show. And the ratings were mediocre at best and you would think CBS would of built on that momentum? Nope. Instead the ratings were way worse, the arena had tons of empty seats ect. Look at the XFL. They had a multi-year plan and smart business people running it and network backing. But they spent too much money hoping to get and keep big ratings to have sponsors pay the bills. And unlike PBC they got monster ratings their first event. Then the ratings went down each event following that until it plateaued. They didn't have the ratings to draw sponsors and were left with huge million dollar loses each event. Had they lowered their costs they might of gotten to a year 2 and 3 ect without big advertisement backing. But it simply cost them too much money to produce each game and they went under after 1 year. Haymon is getting close to that point where he is first paying millions to the network for the time buy. Paying millions for his fighters and the ratings are too low to get advertisers which is why each PBC show has only a few real commercial ads. The rest are just promo's for PBC run over and over again. This is like one expensive infomercial. And as for the product it's been nothing but mismatches and non competitive fights and outside of hard core boxing fans the general public has ignored it.
But I think there's a fundamental flaw in an approach to marketing/promoting boxing that places almost no value in live attendance....and yet that's pretty much Haymon's approach with some of these fights...pick a venue, and if tickets don't sell just giveaway tickets to casino workers, put some free tickets on 1iota or Facebook, it doesn't matter, it's all about tv.
And that's how you get scenarios they had with Thurman-Guerrero where they had a poor ticket sales and poor crowd on hand, or like Russell-Gonzalez reportedly moving from California to Texas to Nevada.Last edited by Mitchell Kane; 04-08-2015, 11:49 AM.Comment

The current PBC numbers while not amazing have been solid.Comment

I think you're reaching and really looking at the wrong place for the ratings falling the budget being cut.Comment

So Stevenson now equals Jon Jones and Chris Weidman? Those are probably 2 of the top 5 stars in the UFC.
If Floyd/Pacquiao/Canelo/Cotto/GGG/Kovalev/DGarcia did these ratings then yes I agree they would be bad.
We still don't have the whole numbers to evaluate how well or bad this card did but like the article said "Only 1 other sport did over a 1.0 rating".Comment

Did you find the averages during the day for both channels? The average doesn't matter as much as you think, especially when it comes to boxing. The Mayweather documentary that CBS ran a few years ago was the lowest rated program ever on CBS prime time.

Ratings for live sporting events usually trend upwards, the final numbers will probably be out tomorrow including the peak.
The current ratings are just overnights.Comment
