  • Comments Thread For: Artur Szpilka Eyes Showdown With Chris Arreola

In a little over two weeks Artur Szpilka (17-1, 12 KOs) will return to the ring at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, with newly hired head coach Ronnie Shields in the corner. It will also be the first fight for Szpilka since signing up with powerful manager/adviser Al Haymon powerful.

For his first assignment under Shields, Szpilka will face Ty Cobb (18-6, 10 KOs) in a non-televised contest. Although there has been talk of Szpilka pursuing a much stiffer test in his next ring return, possibly against someone like two-time title challenger Chris Arreola (36-4, 31 KOs), who is also contracted to Haymon.

if arreola gets in better fighting shape I think this is a good fight for him. Off hand I can't think of any southpaws he has fought outside joey abell. I like szpilka but I don't see him beating arreola. If he does then it could be time for arreola to hang it up unless he wants to be nothing more then a stepping stone opponent like kevin Johnson.

Szpilka vs. Arreola is a good, competitive fight, the kind of matchup I'd like to see more often in the heavyweight division.

We'll see how Szpilka looks with Ronnie Shields as the trainer. I really think this is it for him, make it or break it. He's still young and didn't get the best training in Poland but he still showed sparks and had some really fun fights. Arreola really has been quiet lately. This could be a fight similar to what Szpilka had with Adamek... If Szpilka wins he keeps moving up and Arreola's career is pretty much dust in the wind.

I'll be at Szpilka's fight in 2 weeks and can't wait to see how he looks!

Adamek looked like siht after he left Shields for Bloodworth, I really fail to see what Bloodworth brought to the table at the time, afterwards looking back he brought jack.

This could play out to be a good call by Szpila, he has glass though unlike Goral. Against Arreola it is whoever lands first. Cris can't stand up to those one twos of Szpila's, he'll knock him over. I always considered Arreola durable though, IMO Arreola is a tougher nut. I'll go with the Mexican if he is conditioned within reasonable shape as in the appearance he brought to the Stiverne and Mitchell fights. I know the likelihood of that is about zero, but if Jennings can stop the Pole, Arreola can destroy him.
