Margo could've had a perfect eye and it woulda been the same result because Cotto used hugging tactics to compensate for his vastly inferior stamina and durability and to manipulate a more favorable punches landed disparity. Simple as that.

on the first fight, cotto was looking bad but he was able to survive several more rounds, so lets just say that in that 9th round in the second fight cotto wasnt looking good

We can never know what "could" have happened but its unlikely as Margs didn't do enough damage or wear Cotto down enough in previous rd to have forced a stoppage or put enough doubt in Cotto's mind whether he could get through this but the tide was turning.

The first fight was not one sided. That is another misconception. Cotto was bloodied from round 2 on. He was seriously hurt in the 7th and took a beating the rest of the fight. He had a good first half. That is all.

He dominated the rematch though. Second fight was not comparable in any way to the first one. Margarito wasn't doing nothing but eating punches and talking s**t.
