It's hard to say. I would maybe lean towards Kova now, but really it's 50-50. I'd love to see Ward move up fight the likes of Mekhonstev, Beterbiev, Kovalev, Gvozdyk etc.

Out of those 4, I would pick Mekhonstev to beat Ward for sure. I think he would outbox and outwork Ward.

The other 3 could very well beat him as well. 175 has some of the best talent in boxing, Ward should move up and challenge himself, he's already proven he's the best at 168.

To close to call for me Ward would have to be on top of his game in this fight.

Would love to see them fight especially once Ward gets back into the ring and gets at least 2 more fights under his belt after the Periban fight.

Back to topic i think right now Kovalev would destroy Ward, if Ward actually gets back into rhythm and moves up to 175 in the next year, has at least a top 10 win there before facing Kovalev, i think this will be a very competitive fight but i still think Kovalevs wins by close decision or knocks Ward out in the championship rounds.
Ummm yeah, if you read what I replied to you'd know it was him who put Beterbiev's name into this thread.

Back to the topic, if Ward comes in at the top of his game, he tears Kovalev up.

I hopefully Ward goes up to 175lbs later this year.

If Ward is any less than he was before this layoff, I think Kovalev beats him. Kovalev is a dangerous fighter.

No way he "tears him up." Ward at his best is slippery and crafty enough to win a clear decision. In no way does he dominate.

Before the Hopkins fight I would have gone with Ward, but now I favor Kovalev since he showed a new dimension in being a superb boxer. That, taken with the fact that Kovalev fights at the higher weight class, appears to be the naturally bigger man (barely makes the weight limit) and Ward has been inactive, I think it would be a long night for Ward right now. First things first, Ward needs to get back into the ring and start being active because we really don't know where's he's a right now.

Ward is #2 p4p so it's not far fetch he beats Kovalev who's not actually suppose to be on the p4p list. He definitely schools Kovalev based off skillset.

I'd go with Kovalev but it could go either way. Ward might really frustrate Kovalev. Would love to see it, especially if Kovalev left Ward in a bloody mess on the canvas.

Ward does a lot of subtle things someone who has never boxed a day in their lives (namely 90% of the users on this board) would never understand. He can take away what you do best and force you to have a plan b, c, or d. Ward decision and the Eastern European bigots cry robbery.
