Roach just thought Marquez was there to be got after how he looked against Mayweather at 144. Roach does his thing and can't take that away from him but dude ain't no coaching genius when he can't even get Manny to avoid right hands throughout his whole career.
    That is exactly right !

And they did the same thing with Mosley and Cotto.

They turned Mosley down twice after he beat the brakes off Margarito, but then fought him two years later when it became obvious that he was shot...... and they were happy to fight Hoya/Clottey at 147, but not Cotto..... then when they tried to rematch 154lb Cotto They would not even consider a catchweight LOL, that fight fell through because Pacquiao demanded Cotto at 147.

    Roach is a handicapper !

Handicapping, in sport and games, is the practice of assigning advantage through scoring compensation or other advantage given to different contestants to equalize the chances of winning.

(Can't post the URL source since I am new. But check out Handicapping in Wikipedia.)

If a naturally smaller guy fights a naturally bigger guy, they have to meet in a common/middle ground.

Long term boxing fans know better.

That is the supposed legitimate reason for a catchweight.

They can also be used to drain/disadvantage opponents.

        Check this out.....
        http://www.thesweetscience.com/artic...ome-with-cotto

Take note of the last sentence in that link.

BTW, Pac had already fought at 147 when they demanded the catchweight for Cotto, he was not the smaller guy.

There are only two reasons for a catchweight.....

          1) you are not good enough to compete against your opponent because of size disadsvantage..... so the answer is simple, fakk off back to your own division instead of insisting that guys have to change their preparation/body in order to accomodate little old you

          2) you are attempting to drain him in order to gain an unfair advantage

          Neither are acceptable.

I do not want to discuss this issue any further.

We have 17 weight divisions today.

You are either a genuine boxing fan who puts the sport first..... or, you are happy to inexplicably and unnecessarily further diminish the standards within boxing, for god knows what reason.

I am done discussing catchweight rubbish !
