Comments Thread For: Frankie Gavin Wants To Push on To World Level Fights

Birmingham’s Frankie Gavin has vowed to show what he can do when he meets South Africa’s Chis van Heerden, 22-1-1 (11), on May 9. Gavin, 22-1 (13), challenges for the IBF International welterweight title in front of his home town fans at the city’s Barclaycard Arena in what he beleives is a make or break encounter.

The 29-year-old out-pointed Bogadan Mitic in his last fight, but struggled to pin his man down or get him to engage, resulting in an unedifying spectacle for both Gavin and the spectators. This time, though, he has vowed to shine brightly and put in a special performance to move towards world level.

Stop it Gavin. I'll never watch him fight again.

Skillwise Gavin is very good, he just doesn't have the right attitude, mentality and style to make it as a top pro.

The only high level fighters he would be competitive against are guys who would fight at a slow pace and not put pressure on him, somebody like Alexander for example.

He's decent but thinks too highly of himself. He's adamant that he beat Bundu and is world class just because Thurman didn't stop Bundu. If he fights Khan or Brook, he's gets beaten senseless.

He'd be better at 140 but jr welter is full of monsters and I don't think he fancies his chances gainst the Matthysses and Provodnikovs. I dont blame him.

He's a 140lb fighter with a terrible training/nutrition team, or he's just flat out lazy. Coming in to every fight in poor shape is completely unprofessional and hurts nobody but himself; he just has to fight bigger guys because he was too lazy to lose the extra few lbs that he carries in fat.

He's also unbelievably boring, average in most aspects and uninteresting in basically every way.

                definitely too small for 147.

He gets all annoyed when it is suggested he is too small for the weight. He is! Tiny.

He would not even be a big lightweight.

He is skillful but Bundu stylistically is ideal for Gavin and he lost. He can't be world class.

He is also the most boring fighter out there at the top level on the domestic scene. The Witter fight, the Skeete fight, and that last one might were so, so, so, so bad. So bad.

I am with Adam. I don't think I can watch him again.

Good fighter but I could do something else. Anything else.

He definitely lost, how often does a hometown fighter lose on the scorecards against a foreigner! Lol i find his fights so boring, he says skeete made the fight boring but skeete has no power, he could have just walked through him if he wanted to make something happen
