Arum/Top Rank probably have first dibs on TBS and TNT.That's exactly what I have been saying this whole time. However he will fail with this one. He's trying to take networks away from Arum and Jay-Z. The whole reason top rank got Tru tv was because they didn't want Haymon or Jay-Z to get it. Jay-Z has FS1 along with GBP, And Jay-Z has BET I presume. Top Rank or Jay-Z will probably get Fox. In a sense, Haymon has a monopoly. Who is going to get TBS first, that's something I am curious about.Comment

Turner is part of Time Warner, which has HBO.
TruTV is basically a sister station of HBO...so I expect that we could start seeing ads for TruTV fight cards, or at least mentioned on the upcoming schedule, during HBO broadcasts and vice versa.
There's a reason why the first three TruTV cards are scheduled on the Friday before HBO fight cards.Last edited by Mitchell Kane; 04-03-2015, 02:08 PM.Comment

No, he is not. He is simply doing what is in the best interest of his fighters. Any other promoter, advisor or manager can do the same thing that Haymon is doing. There is nothing preventing them from following in Haymon's footsteps.Comment

Uhhh yes, it's called MONEY. Haymon has money to blow. His investors have given him the green light. He must of sold them on one hell of a plan.Comment

Any fan of boxing would be please with what Haymon is doing. These fighters would still be fighting, even if Haymon didn't create PBC. They simply wouldn't get to appear on television and wouldn't make as much money. What Haymon is doing with the networks and cable channels is no different that watching multiple college football games on multiple channels on multiple days during the week. No college football fan would complain about the sport being watered down because they can watch 20 games in a week.Like I stated in an earlier thread.....
Although its good that boxing is getting more exposure, at the same time it feels as if its also getting watered down. You have all these different networks showing fights now on different days and different times. Its disorganized. When its on HBO or Showtime you know that its going to be on a Sat evening. With networks like BET, Fox1, NBC, Spike TV, ESPN, ETC.. Its hard to keep track of who's showing what on what time/date.
I'm happy there's more fights being televised now. I just wish there was more organization to it. Its all over the place. Different promoters, different channels at different times on different days. This promoter wont work with that promoter. This guy cant fight that guy because they have exclusive contracts with their networks. Etc. Its one big jumbled mess.Comment

GBP, Top Rank, Don King and other promoters have been in the business for 10, 20, or 30 years. As long as they have been in the business, they should have the money or the connections to raise money to do what Haymon is doing. Oscar de la Hoya did not use his own money to create Golden Boy Promotions. He used investor money to build his company just as Haymon is using investor money to fund PBC. These promoters have simply been unwilling to take any risks and have depended on HBO and Showtime to subsidize their companies for years.
Haymon is simply more innovative and much more of a risktaker.Comment

Haymon was willing to take HBO/SHO money just as much as the next promoter.
Necessity is the mother of invention.
Haymon was fine with relying on HBO/SHO money as long as they were willing to spend it on him and his fighters.
HBO quit Haymon, and SHO isn't spending money like they were.Last edited by Mitchell Kane; 04-03-2015, 03:01 PM.Comment
