To me, a 'risky' fight is one where you have a risk of being physically beaten up, or a fight against a smaller challenger who can defeat a strong favourite, not a fight where you have a chance of losing. I think having a chance of losing should be a normal part of the sport.

In my eyes, this fight was a much bigger risk for Martinez than it was for Cotto. If Cotto had lost, no big deal. He tried to move up and take on the MW champion of the world and failed. He was not the favourite to win and had no risk to his health as Sergio was not a KO puncher.

Martinez, on the other hand, was taking all the risks. Losing to a smaller fighter could put his career in jeopardy and as it turned out, Martinez will likely never be in another major fight again.

The problem with Cotto is that he took a fantastic win and in the space of 10 months has flipped it from being a great success to an abject failure due to his total inactivity and circus atmosphere when it comes to finally choosing an opponent. Like Ward he has no one to blame but himself for the way boxing fans are looking at him today.

Cotto understands boxing "fans" are flip floppers. A fighter KOs somebody and "he's back!!!" "GOAT!" That same fighter loses, or does not fight soon enough, and he is a "diva" or "overrated..." It's of no real consequence what ANY of us here feel in the end. We talk a lot of shyt, only to shell out our $69 come saturday night.

If we were talking about a young fighter who is fighting 2-3X per year, I could understand the manufactured "frustration" with Cotto, but we are not. We are talking about a 34 year old guy, who was busy working his way OUT of having to deal with Top Rank again, and he will be fighting in June. What sane person truly gives a fck WHEN he announces his opponent. Most "fans" who claim to have lost respect for Cotto, were never Cotto fans to begin with, and are looking for ANY excuse to diminish Cotto. "Oh man, why is Cotto purposely stalling to give me my instant gratification high??!"

He is fighting in June... Get over it.

cotto = soft at what ever weight. it doesnt matter, the guy will either quit or run out of the ring like a crybaby after he loses to canelo, andrade, kirkland, or anyone in or around his weight class.

            Yes he is.

He is holding a belt in a weightclass where he doesn't belong.
As a boxing fan, it is ugly to see this guy holding a title he won from an injured, not 100% Martinez and then have the nerve to tell the WBC to F themselves when ordered to do a mandatory. On top of all that he makes fun of GGGs resume when GGG is widely considered the top dog at Middleweight. I think Cotto will hold that title until he gets stripped. I don' t see him facing up to GGG.

I don't care about his promotional problems or his problems with his trainer being busy with another fighter. Tough luck. Get it settled. He should be out there defending his title and if he has a valid reason why he cannot, he should be honest about it and disclose it during his interviews instead of dancing around like a trained clown and avoiding the issues.

Even now his little 'I'm fighting in June, I just won't say against who yet because I really don't give a crap about my fans. They are ****** and will watch me fight anyone.' is disrespectful to the sport and the fans of boxing in general. I hope it does turn out to be Geale and that Geale knocks him senseless. It would take me days to stop laughing after that.

Cotto is definitely too small and he has no businss fighting at 160. Every top fighter at 160 would beat him on size alone....Move down to 154 or 147.

Guy is a WW thats too lazy to make weight, part of his recent diva behaviour. Used to be a fan a couple years ago but that changed when he moved to 154, he got outclassed by frigging Austin Trout and cried like a *****, very unprofessinal. He fought Martinez only because they knew he was injured and now is holding the MW belt hostage. Keeping the belt and calling himself middleweight champion but not wanting to fight THE champ at this weightclass is pathetic, why not just vacate the belt? GGG wants that belt, if Cotto doesnt want to get goodboyed or lose even the last tiny bit of credibility he has to vacate asap.

He also *****ed out of the Canelo fight because of his Diva and A side allures and ****. He betrayed Top Rank, the company that build him up and did everything for him, signing with Roc Nation just for the money, giving a **** about his fans and the people that made him a star. Hopefully he gets knocked out by whoever he fights next.

Get therapy. I think you are letting Cotto troll the shyt out of you ever since he beat your idol Martinez.

Again, I think you are getting too caught up in thinking Cotto gives a shyt about impatient kids on a forum. It's business. You hate it? Don't buy his fights.
