Just look at the opponents who have been rumored for Cotto; near all the names involve fighters who will likely walk into the ring around 165. If Geale was a giant middleweight, you'd have an argument; he's not.
You are either a middleweight or you are not. Catch weights, calling another fighter a big or small middleweight are nothing but excuses for cowards. If you cannot fight someone who weighs in at the division maximum then you should not be there in the first place. GGG generally weighs from 165 to 173 on fight night with the heaviest being when he fought Rubio who did not make weight and came in over 180 on fight night.

When you are the lineal middleweight champion, there is no room or place for excuses. Either defend it against the best in the division or vacate the title. Anything else is pure bull*****. If your opponent weighs in at 160 and you can only make 155, that is your problem, not his. Be a man and fight.

utterly ridiculous. Cotto came up to midleweight to fight Sergio Martinez, not to campaign as a middleweight.

try getting Golovkin's nuts out of your mouth

Cotto is TOO small for 160, absolutely, he would be killed by Golovkin in the first 5 rounds.

There are two worlds in boxing; the glory and the glitz.

Glory produces fights and careers typically saturated with best, riskiest of opponents and fights that typically produce highlights and fan favorite moments.

The Glitz produce careers full of carefully selected opponents maximizing money and positioning them for the next pay day. Every fighter is a mixture of these two worlds, it's just a reality. Cotto is at the point of his career where we are going to get more glitz than glory that said, how many picked him over Martinez? That took big balls in his part and a lot of self belief. It's sad how many people on here get ****** in and polarized because they can't grasp these concepts.

Why did it take big balls to fight Martinez? It's not like Sergio was a power puncher with a reputation for stopping his opponents. Add his bad knees into the equation and there was very little risk, beyond a possible decision loss for Cotto going in to that fight.

I don't think so, most all media, trainers and boxing scene self proclaimed experts were picking Martinez to not just win but beat the hell out of Cotto. Martinez was/is considered a guy with really good power, he even hurt Chavez late in their fight. I don't think his knees played as big of a factor as a lot of people. The bigger factors were the long layoff, and the fact that Cotto was way quicker and a much better boxer than he had faced in a long time. He also had better power at the weight than Martinez had anticipated. Martinez got caught and hurt early and couldn't recover. Cotto fought a great fight. Doesn't make Cotto the best middle weight ever..... Just a real good fight for him.

Chavez almost knocked Martinez out in the final stages of their fight, if there had been another round left, Chavez Jr. would have ended him. I still have it on my PC somewhere. Sergio was not a knock out artist. Fighting GGG would take big balls, not Martinez.

Your right that also happened in the Chavez fight. But your wrong or maybe limited in how you view boxing.
