Comments Thread For: Roach Has Pacquiao Focused To Avoid Right Hand, Traps

Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach has WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao focused and ready to avoid the incoming right hand from Floyd Mayweather Jr., the WBC/WBA champion at 147 and 154-pounds. Mayweather-Pacquiao takes place on May 2nd from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao returns from a dominating performance over Chris Algieri in November. Algieri went down six times in the contest, but Roach didn't like the fact that Pacquiao was following him around the ring a little too much. He wants Pacquiao to avoid doing that in May, because Mayweather will use that type of approach to set up his right hands.

Good, hopefully they've done something about him dropping his left hand to his nuts when he throws that right jab.

If he's ate right hands like M&M's his whole career he's gonna eat a lot against one of the best right hands in the game.

Going to a neutral position might be the best thing to do for him defensively though. Downsides are it halts his own offense and it's also playing a dangerous game of getting him ****** into a thinking game which isn't his best territory. It'll be interesting to see what kind of follow up attack they have after that.

And Roach somehow thinks that Floyd won't adapt to this?

Pacquiao tried to fight a more defensive fight in the 3rd fight against Marquez, his offense suffered as a result and he ended up getting outboxed in my opinion. Manny has to be aggressive here, make Mayweather worried about what he's doing as opposed to the other way around.

Come on! Pacroid has the worst defense in boxing! On top of that trying to make him do more? Haha! That camp is a mess trying to do anything!? Mayweather's confidence is going through the roof!

Its too late for Roach to try to teach him all that. He can just make Pac what he does a little better and do very subtle adjustments to the way he fights.

Pac's style will give Floyd problems so he shouldn't be adjusting Pac so much to fight him. What they really have to do is to practice a plan B and C
