from what I understand Canelo has a very impressive hype machine behind him in the form of Mexican tv networks. I read a good article on that around the time of the Floyd/Canelo fight. about how Canelo (at that time) was merely the the product of hype machine and didn't have nearly the amount of fans at home that folks outside of Mexico were/are led to believe.

Ok I can understand "the look" concept but honestly only on NSB do I ever hear how "good looking" he is and its only from men. Ive asked a couple different women what they thought of him and they said hes not ugly but far from fine.

I really think its the "unique" red hair that helped him out a lot even though Ive known 2 Mexican families in my life with red hair, one coincidentally had the last name Alvarez. But to each their own, Im just trying to see if some one could broaden my views.

A lot of beta males in here with man-crushes on boxers. They live through these fighters and even refer to actual fighters as "cowards..." Not unlike a loud mouthed wife, who berates her husband's opponent, while standing behind her man.

That's a good article explaining the Canelo Hype. Jay Caspian also did some good write ups on Don King and Adrien Broner.

His style , attitude and nationality play a part in his popularity but The It factor that drives it is his looks and white skin. Women and some of the posters on here want his D and probably a large part of his fan base wish and envy his white skin

I watched May/Canelo at a party hosted by a white chick who doesn't follow boxing but bought the fight because she wanted Nelos semen in her mouth ( I'm assuming most Canelo fans on this site are fans for the same reason ) that pretty sums up his crossover popularity.

Yet... you're the one who brought up Cotto for no reason. Cotto fans tend to be boxing fans so we care about other boxers not just two people like you do.

Canelo is popular because girls think he's sexy, Oscar said he was the next big thing, and he was fed nothing but **** fighters 90% of his career. You get people who don't know **** about boxing to think he's something special and Mexicans will back any fighter that's Mexican and isn't a b*tch. It's why Canelo has fans and Leo and Garcia don't.
