He didnt have an amateur career, his first televised fight in the U.S. wasnt very impressive (Jose Cotto), he didnt come from a boxing "name" like Chavez, and he's not the most charismatic boxer to ever grace the cover of Ring magazine...

how do you know he is not very charismatic do you speak fluent Spanish? he is extremely popular in Mexico and in the mexican community in the unitied states. Most mexicans watch primary mexicans station and see him on commercials and all kinds of other sponsor events. The females like him and he thinks he cute and all that and he has a very appaling style that the mexicans has shown they perfer.
