Russell Jr. becomes the 3rd 2008 US Olympian to win a belt (Andrade WBO JMW, Wilder WBC HW).

I didn't like Russell at all, but after dethroning my boy Gonzales...well I guess...he made a fan out of me. Kudos to Gary. Smart skillful fighter with no fear.

Fans weren't happy though because he didn't fight somebody before he fought somebody but should've fought somebody in between somebody that was somebody because somebody? Something? They don't know exactly what it is that bothers them but something because somebody.

In short: Excellent stuff, perfect for detractors to stew about.

This was a good bounce back win for Russell and he solidified himself as a force in one of my favorite divisions.

I hate that russells win is connected to loma. I don't think it is at all he beat the champ and deserves to bask in this moment of glory. I'd love to see him in the future.

Good to see Russell commit to his punches and follow through. He just flicked punches at Loma all night. If they do it again I think Russ does better.

Hmm... maybe it's because it was the main event of the most notable card of the weekend?

Had Gonzalez won, that would've been the lead story. If it were a draw/no-contest, then that becomes the lead.

                  Get it? Good.

Congratulations to Russell Jr on his victory over Gonzalez this last weekend. I just barely watched it.
I picked him to beat Gonzalez and I give him credit for the KO, he did what Mares was scared to do.
I knew Russell Jr would beat him, but not by knock out. I always wanted to see Gonzalez vs Mares 2, but Russell Jr beating Gonzalez kinda of killed the interest for me.

I like Russell Jr as fighter, but I don't like to hear a fighter make excuses after an L take your losses like a man, and give credit to Loma for his victory over you.
