Comments Thread For: Golden Boy Sues Gonzalez, Claims Haymon Collusion

LOS ANGELES - Boxer Jhonny Gonzalez and his Mexican promoter Promociones del Pueblo conspired with manager/promoter Al Haymon to violate Golden Boy's exclusive rights to promote Gonzalez, a bombshell complaint filed today against the fighter and the promotional company contends.

Despite Golden Boy's repeated attempts, Gonzalez, Promociones del Pueblo and Haymon repeatedly refused to put on tomorrow night's fight between Gonzalez and Gary Russell, Jr., until they cut Golden Boy out of the process, clearly violating the agreement between the boxer and promoter.

so then the current math is.........

AH + GB = no fight

AH + TR (-may vs pac) = no fight

AH + HBO (-may vs pac) = no fight

AH + RN = no fight

which pretty much leaves us with AH + AH = fight

Not surprised and Oscar's company should get what they deserve if the contract is legit. I will say Haymon has been a perfectionist at covering his @ss to this point, with the contract stipulation that his employees and advised fighters cannot reflect him in a negative light. With that many boxers, most of which aren't very active someone has to be pissed off.

Top rank and gbp will put on better consistent cards in the long run. Haymon ' questionable ethics will catch up to him in the long run.

I think this is just the first of many such lawsuits that will be brought against Haymon in the months and years to come. It is about time that someone does something about his manipulations and his attempts to control boxing.

I thought the whole thing with Schaefer was agreed to let his fighter go

I must've forgot he was attached to GBP because this never crossed my mind....but Al seems content with trying to screw Oscar over while paying him at the same time

I would have more supportive of Haymon if he was actually trying to build bridges with other promoters. BUT it is clear he is content creating his own ufc and being divisive. Pbc would be awesome if Haymon focused on bringing unity to the sport. Instead ...greed. ..and limitation to only Haymon in house fighters will only get you so far

Haymon works with Hearn, DiBella, Warriors, Goosen, GYM just off the top of my head. GBP is dead. All they have is Canelo. Their next best is probably Lemeiux. That outfit is swimming with the fishes.
