Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach is getting young, hungry sparring partners for WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, who is preparing for a high stakes unification against WBC/WBA champion Floyd Mayweather Jr on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Roach is getting fighters who are undefeated, with good records, who are able to mimic certain aspects of Mayweather's style.

"I really don’t believe in getting older guys to be your sparring partners — guys who are just in front of you. I like getting young contenders, it helps them along the way and Manny will make some of them a better fighter by just the knowledge that they’ll get by being in the ring with him," Roach told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.

it will go something like: "we looked great vs algieri and we sparred more for that fight. I think if we sparred more rounds with mayweather manny would have been more prepared."

Smart move by roach, keeps PAC frsher no need to spar that many rounds and get worn down before a fight, plus smart not to us slow sparring. Plus he is coming from a fight. No long layoff. The cramping problem is probably from ill fitting shoes. Maybe he lacks potassium

Mayweather started sparring early, probably has more than 200 rounds recorded at 5 minutes a round, with ten different spar mates. That's obsessive, I don't know how he can spar that much and not overtrain, unless he uses something, at his age he defies logic, even b Hopkins doesn't spar that much at his age.

Despite what so many on here say, Roach is a hell of a trainer. HOF trainer. Still... I don't know that I believe a word he says. Both camps are 'leaking' out info about sparring and strategy, etc.... These guys are to smart for that bs.

If you understand the principles behind the 'art of war', then you should know that most of what you read about what is going on with both camps is probably not what is really going on lol.

roach's best attribute is telling his fighter to make another guy drop some more pounds...manny still cant work on the inside..doesnt know how to deal with movement...and was born with a right hand on his face..he picks his boogers with right hands, he combs his hair with right hands...he shapes his facial hair with right hands...zou shimming losses and freddie gets know blame..if rigo would have lost the world would say he needs a freddie roach in his corner...lmmfao
