He really let himself, his team, and the fans down against Andrade. After all those years of big talk? Man.
I like the guy, but he needs to chill with the whole "I wasn't 100%." Bull****. Yes you were, you were fighting for the title. You just let it slip through your fingers.Comment

He probably is underestimated but he doesn't get credit because his record is pretty padded. Prior to Lara I couldn't name a single fighter Vanes has fought. In fact, IIRC after the Lara fight his next fight was on an untelevised undercard. And up until Andrade, Vanes was 30+ fights undefeated and that was his first title fight? That's kinda odd, especially today.Comment

He spent ages waiting for the WBC to enforce his mandatory shot at Canelo, and turned down fights with James Kirkland and someone else notable (Angulo?) along the way. He said (somewhat rightly so) that the WBC was just having the dangerous challengers fight each other in endless eliminators while Canelo held the belt hostage fighting guys like Rhodes and Gomez. He probably is underestimated but he doesn't get credit because his record is pretty padded. He was completely right, Canelo should have never been gifted a belt that early in his career, but that doesn't change the fact that Vanes, in the meantime, fought a buncha nobodies.Last edited by paulf; 03-23-2015, 09:22 PM.Comment

Vanes admitted to losing, he admitted Andrade was the better man that night, but stating that he wasn't 100% was not an excuse but a fact. If anyone has seen Vanes, he clearly wasn't near his best. Facts are there...He really let himself, his team, and the fans down against Andrade. After all those years of big talk? Man.

Freddie Roach promised Vanes he'd be there for his full camp.
Then he promised him he'd be there for the last 3 weeks.
Then he promised him he'd be in his corner for the fight.
Guess, what? He didn't show up and stayed in Phillipines with Pacquiao. Money talks, no loyalty in this sport. Vanes was with Freddy for close to 10 years, he was there before Freddy got big with the likes of Cotoo, Pac, Chavez, Khan. Hence why Vanes fired Freddy.
Vanes literally had no trainer for the entire camp. Going up for your first title shot and not having a trainer, I don't see why it is so hard to believe that he was not 100%.Comment

Only fight that was past up was against Angulo in his backyard in Mexico, on a corrupt Golden Boy Card, with an insulting purse offer. Top Rank and GB did not work together at the time which caused additional complications, the money offered was less than his previous fight, and the risk simply was not worth the reward. He spent ages waiting for the WBC to enforce his mandatory shot at Canelo, and turned down fights with James Kirkland and someone else notable (Angulo?) along the way. All 3 Judges had Kirkland losing every round in that fight, despite the beating he put on Angulo. As an undefeated US Olympian it made no business sense to take that fight and none of you would have either.
The record was padded for 2 reasons...
1) Top Rank not having any 154 fighters and refusing to work with Golden Boy
2) WBC protecting Canelo and not requiring mandatory when Vanes was #1 for 2 YEARS!Comment

Vanes was a nobody when he was offered the Angulo fight. His biggest win was that bum Roman and not to mention he really lost to Ouma.
Kirkland had the guts and KO'd Angulo on his turf now he's fighting Canelo.
Aright Vanes we get it. But you still blew your chances with Andrade, it's easy to indirectly blame Roach but it was still your shot and you lost.
