The people who hate Cotto are those who lack self worth/confidence. The rage against what they perceive to be "arrogance" from Cotto as a result.

You have an entire culture who are trained from day one, that being poor and humble is a beautiful thing. It is romanticized in their shytty music complete with yelping and crying in the actual song. So, when you have bitter little men, who again, are raised to resent confidence and self worth, they will be the FIRST to HATE on a fella doing good or feeling proud.
