Comments Thread For: Kovalev-Mohammedi To Land in June or July, on HBO

After this weekend's stoppage of Jean Pascal in Montreal, light heavyweight destroyer Sergey Kovalev - who has a multitude of championship belts around his waist - must now fulfill his obligation to the IBF. Something that Kathy Duva, the head of Main Events (which promotes Kovalev), has stated they plan to do.

The sooner the better, this fight will be over the 1st round, he has already been stopped twice (1st and 2nd round KO). You have to love mandatory challengers, this guy has no chance, plus he has fought weak comp. the times he fought a decent fighter, he got beat or destroyed. Just make the undercard better than Saturday, the first fight ******, second not very good either (plus a bad decision on top).
Wonder what the over/ under will be, can't be much more than 1.5 or 2.5 rounds?

Atleast he's giving us GGG matchups because he's already fought top 3-4 fighters in his division. Unlike this guy who is being put in top10 p4p without beating anyone in the top5 in his own division. Arguably not even top10 guys lol.

That's the problem with Golovkin's situation. He can fight top 1-3 MW's and still, that's nothing. There's really not much there. He just arguably beat the best MW in Murray.

Kovalev on the otherhand beat Pascal and Hopkins back to back. Pascal is a very tough fighter, he punches hard, he's awkward and he's also strong, no one will ever have it easy with JP. Hopkins is pretty much unknockoutable and difficult to really look good against. Kovalev just easily beat 2 former legit 175 Ring champions, Hopkins being a 2x Ring champ at 175. There's no one at MW for GGG with those kind of feats. Kovalev and GGG are not comparable at all. Kov beating former Ring 175 champs, GGG beating chumps and guys that were once "decent". Kovalev is the real deal and the guy is big too, he's 190lbs, these smaller LHW's and SMW's will be fighting basically a cruiserweight on fight night, that could punch and take a punch and could box.

Exactly , thats why GGG should move up , cause there's no one to fight there . But instead he constantly goes to these exotic places like Monaco fighting 3rd rate fighters . Although he had fought Murray , Stevenson and Rosado which I do give him credit for .

Fighting two of the best LH's in the division back to back, Kovalev deserves this stay-busy fight. Remember the fight is won during training, preparing for both pascal and Hopkins must have been very difficult.

His fans say that "No MW wants him", "Cotto and Canelo ducking", "Quillin doesn't want it". But it doesn't matter because it's a weak division with no stand-out fighter. And beating 5' 7" JMW's like Canelo and Cotto is not going to help either.

LHW has Hopkins, Pascal, Stevenson in the top 3(excluding Kovalev himself of course); and Kovalev beat 2/3 of that list. In GGG's case, it doesn't matter if he beats Cotto, Quillin and Martinez, the top 3 other than himself. Martinez is old, injury prone, been KO'ed by short/small Cotto, lost to Murray. Quillin has beaten no one of note. And Cotto is too short and small for a guy who will be a LHW on fight night.
