jones's power at light heavy wasnt nearly on the same level as at super middle altho he showed some flashes of it. im not sure hed have been able to keep kovalev off him. jones speed obviously would have caused kov problems but I think hed have got to roy in the late rounds. roy tended to go the ropes alot in that weight class and that would be disaster against a puncher like kovalev

I'm not positive but I think Jones won 10 of 12 rounds in that fight!

Lets let Koval get to 30 bouts before he's compared to a top twenty lightheavy.
There is a pretty big list of men who fought at 175 that would be favored over Koval right now in his career!
I see him a little more relaxed in the ring and I see him trusting his eyes and hands more and more. When that starts to happen a fighter has a chance to refine his skill set and improve dramaticly.
Right now I don't think he can catch up with Roy but if he can get his steps down better while maintaining balance his chances increase alot because he brings some power.
I can't think of any fighter at 175 with less than 25 fights that could handle Roy in his prime.

        Ray

Roy was great, but at 175 he would small compared to Sergey (BHop said it was like a middleweight vs a cruiserweight), also given the fact that Tarver KO'd him in the 2nd round and Glen Johnson got him, I would give Sergey a GREAT punchers chance to win. Roy's speed and reflexes would be a huge factor, but a punch from Sergey could change the fight in the blink of the eyes, even if Roy was killing him on points, he could still lose by late KO.

This question would be best to ask in a couple of years, after we see how Sergey deals with the money, fame and after a few real fights, where he is tested to the brink of defeat.
I hope that Stevenson finally fights Sergey, it would be a great matchup of heavy hitters, I'm sure it would pay both big in Canada, don't think it would go to the scorecards.

I think prime for prime it's a peck 'em fight but I voted for Kovalev just cause I knew everyone else would vote for the old legend over the current hotshot (safer choice incase Kovalev gets KTFO in his next fight).

Note to self, put on ignore anyone that says Kovalev would win. It actually OFFENDS me that the suggestion would even be made.

Mid-late TKO. Or wide decision. RJJjr.

Wow. You get shook so easily. Stay offended, bro. It's either a Roy UD or Kovalev stops him. Kovalev isn't without his shot here, that's crazy talk.

Roy is leading the poll by KO, now that shows you the kneejerk mentality going on here. No way Roy KO's Sergey.

there's nothing outrageous about it at all. jones was still formidable at light heavy but wasnt nearly as effective as super middle. hed be giving up natural size and strength and kovalev isnt exactly a slow oaf in there. hes accurate and busy. if tarver can starch roy and light hitting del valle drop him kovalev certainly could hurt him. I know roy was past his best then but it still doesnt bode well for his chin against a puncher like kovalev. I think it would be a 50/50 fight
