I have always thought guys like Kovalev were made for Calzaghe. I think the X factor is Kovalev's power, because the difference in speed is huge, I think most of you would be shocked at how much faster Joe is in every way. If Kovalev lands the right way though, like against all other fighters it appears that no one can stand up to the power thus far. The considerable size and reach advantage can also be a deciding factor.

To be honest I feel it is a bit early for this and anyone who is trying to predict the result at this point in time, it would be a wild guess, Kovalev has only just beaten his second B level guy in my opinion. Pascal and Hopkins at his current age both equate to solid B level champions for me, and are the first really impressive proven fighters Kovalev beat, Cleverly and others were C level. I would like to see him fight at this level for a longer more consistent period before any comparisons like this are made. He has to show he can compete with all styles and tick all the boxes. We have seen guys come through and be impressive before and then come up against a style which exposes them, it may not even be a fighter that is better than what he has currently beat, but a style which exposes him. For example Kovalev could get totally exposed by Stevenson's power, speed, and boxing ability. Then what is everyone going to say? He will be a bad fighter overnight all of a sudden, even though he is not.

His fault. He was knocked down by two guys who at that stage had no power, he also lost the Hopkins fight IMO.

Calzaghe's whole outwork style and squaring up was fine against average fighters and/or light hitters, Kovalev is a very good fighter with savage power and a big size advantage.

Calzaghe could beat some good fighters, he gets beaten badly and stopped by Kovalev.
