I don't want to turn this into a Danny Garcia thread but it's really not even close. The selection of Rod Salka as an opponent for Danny Garcia ranks among the worst mismatches of the last 10 years.

First off with Danny the standards are set higher because he's ranked the no.1 fighter in his weight class, he holds the Ring, WBC and WBA title. Compared to Kovalev who only held 1 belt, and wasn't even recognized as the best, or even 2nd best in the weight class.

Second Salka wasn't even from Danny's weight class. He was from a lower weight class, and he wasn't even ranked top 10, or 20, or 30.... or 50, he was ranked no.77 in a lower weight class.

So in the end you had the lineal no.1 ranked 140 lber in the world, facing the no.77 ranked 135 lber.

It's going to be very difficult for anyone to top that.

The obvious difference is that Kovalev wasn't able to get Stevenson and/or Hopkins in the ring.

Danny Garcia didn't have a lack of options.

Why do people insist on constantly bringing up Lara? He is signed to Haymon and cannot fight on HBO. Not to mention that he is not a middleweight and would probably be an easier fight for GGG than Monroe is going to be. If Lara wants to fight Golovkin, he should dump Haymon so he can fight on HBO and move to MW for a couple of fights to prove himself at the weight before he deserves a title shot.

But we will most likely see him fighting on one of the PBC shows or another against some easy target at a catchweight 10 rounder with no titles on the line.

Really dissapointing, was all but set to attend this event. Not going to throw out hard earned dough on this fight though.

There's just nothing to look forward to as far as realistic future opponents.

              No.

Agnew was 27-0 while Caparello was also undefeated and BoxRec #10. And both were natural light heavyweights.

Salka was not even ranked by any ABCs and came up from a smaller weight division. He wasn't even in the BoxRec top 50 at the smaller weight division he fought in.

YOUR double standards and dishonesty is annoying.

This will count as a mandatory defense of the WBA belt. With Eubank Jnr picking up the interim belt recently, and Quillin taking on Lee for the WBO strap, Monroe Jnr is actually highest rated challenger in the WBA, I have legit never heard of him but I am sure he can fight.

Garcia not rematching Herrera and fighting Salka in his place was disgraceful. Compare that to Mayweather immediately rematching Castillo, and Maidana too for that matter.

It would be one thing if Danny moved up or took a bigger fight, but to fight a complete unknown who hadn't a hope in the second of only two appearances that year was disgusting.

I doubt GGG use his loaded gloves for this fight. He's getting a victory regardless. If GGG uses his loaded gloves regardless then RIP Willie Monroe Jr.

ok but who? look at the rankings please. the options were akio shibata, heiland(who was on the list of ggg opponents), and eubank jr who just fought and there's almost no chance in hell he would fight ggg in the US but i guess it was worth a try? so i guess you can complain about that if you really want to nitpick. otherwise pay attention to who is available and come up with some names instead of just spouting nonsense about some phantom opponent that doesn't even exist.
