Vitali is the definition of this question. Chuck Wepner "knocking down" Ali is another mention.

When Brian Sutherland got knocked out by Kenny Rainford in the opening round of their bout -- that loss would go on to ultimately be Brian's biggest win in life.

                It turned his life around.

Once an extremely heavy methamphetamine addict and severe alcoholic, he realized that for his family and his career, that he'd have to tone it down. Or else.

So fast forward 20 some years later, and he's a completely different man. Instead of a 24 pack of Natural Light, a pint of moonshine, and a $200 bag of meth per day -- he's now down to just an 18 pack, a half pint of moonshine, and a $150 bag of meth per day.

And it was all because of the loss to Rainford.
