  • Comments Thread For: Martin Murray Says Move To 168-Pounds Seems Likely

Martin Murray still has his sights set on being a world champion - but believes he may have to move up to super-middleweight in order to achieve it.

The 32-year-old from St Helens was beaten last month by the formidable Gennady Golovkin, stopped in the 11th round of their WBA middleweight clash in Monte Carlo.

It was the furthest Golovkin (32-0 29KOs) has gone in the paid ranks and Murray earned plenty of plaudits for the way he stood up to the champion's fearsome punching.

Murray will have success at 168.

He's at least as good as Anthony Dirrell and would beat Arthur Abraham.

It would do wonders for Golovkin's resume if Murray beat a couple top 10 super middleweights. Or at least shut up the people who think Golovkin would get his ass kicked if he moved up.

Murray mixing it up at 168 with Abraham, Groves, DeGale, Stieglitz, or a Sturm rematch sounds really good. Once Abraham and Sturm are done with their likely match, Murray should call out the winner and trounce him.

Guy lacked power at middle, I really don't see how he could be a hit at SM.

You know what would do wonders for Golovkin's resume? If Golovkin beat a couple top 10 super middleweights.

I don't see Murray doing any better at 168 than at 160. Yes, he'll probably get a title shot but I don't see him beating either of the Dirrells or Degale. Abraham/Steigliz have Sturm next, and one of those three would be Murrays best chance of a title.

Lets put all our hope on a featherfisted average middleweight to do big things at super middleweight in order to beef up Golovkin's resume instead of Golovkin doing it himself. It's the only way Golovkin will ever be given credit!

After Steven's "was so brave doe" performance against GGG, I remember Stevens also became the chosen one to do big things at middleweight to prove GGG beat someone good.
