Arum might be a scumbag but in this instance it's impossible to not see that Cotto is lying. Take Arum and what he says out the equation for a second. Not too many people call Todd a liar. And his version of what happened falls completely in line with what Oscar has said about the Canelo negations. The people who have been lying for the last 6 months have been Cotto and his camp. Flash back to late last year and both Top Rank and Golden Boy said the fight would be made easily. Golden Boy said they agreed to all Cotto's demands. Top Rank said they were all done and just waiting on Cotto to sign it.

Then around Dec last year something happened. And you got all kinds of BS from Cotto's camp. Then early this year a frustrated Oscar said we are still waiting on a response from Cotto. Then finally after being strung around for months Oscar said we are moving on. We had 5 different deadlines that have past with no response from Cotto. That is totally consistent with Todd last week saying all a sudden Cotto and his people stopped responding to us and returning our calls. Not once did Oscar or Top Rank say Cotto wanted more money or he wanted this or that. They just flat out stopped taking calls and returning emails.

So while Cotto and his camp said we are trying to make this fight it was pure BS. They were lying to the fans, Top Rank and Golden Boy. They had no intentions of making that fight and now we know why they were talking to Roc Nation during that time. Spin it all you want that's a dirtbag move. Just pick up the phone and tell them instead of wasting everyone's time.

Lets kill some of the B.S. that these idiots think they know. Cotto signed with Roach before Top Rank was in the picture. Cotto was going to fight rodriguez, on behalf of Cotto GBP approached showtime with the fight and Showtime said sure they would carry it for 1.5 mill, Top Rank went to HBO on behalf of Cotto and HBO offered 3 Mill with the understanding that Cotto's following fight would be on HBO.
Top Rank didnt get Cotto Martinez, Martinez doesnt fight for Top Rank and Cotto could have gotten that fight without Top Rank, especially because HBO wanted the fight badly. in both Cases Penagraciano provided Roach with 3 names and Roach chose the opponent, Top Rank was lead promoter.
After the Canelo negotiations broke down De La Hoya said that Canelo gave into all Cotto's demands, however a few days later Pengraciano said they never moved off the 50/50 and in the end they could not agree on the money. Debauf said that cotto was getting the lions share, depending on who you believe you can see that there is a problem, Top Rank who is supposed to be defending their fighter seems to be trying to force that fighter into a bad deal using public media negotiating tactics to pressure Cotto, And for the record Cotto has never lied about negotiations and damn near never discusses them, so again this comes down to who you believe.

In any case Cotto owes Top Rank nothing, Roach was on board before Top Rank was Back in the Picture, Rodriguez was signed to fight Before Top Rank was in the Picture, although Debauf negotiated on Cottos behalf, Martinez was delivered by HBO and Dibella. Top Rank blew the Canelo negotiations and lost Cotto to a better deal pretty simple.

Was there a contract signed for cotto-top rank or was it a "fight by fight" basis? Why are you defending arum so much?

He is stuck on slow. "Oh but I saw a video on Youtube in which Cotto said he intended to retire with Top Rank...."


He can't seem to move beyond Cotto's initial intent to retire at Top Rank and the simple reality that something went down, and Cotto knew it was time to move on...

I've never said Arum is a beacon of truth. He clearly isn't lying about Cotto giving his word about staying with TR. It's right there on tape.

It's just easy to paint Arum as a liar which is what Cotto has cleverly done here. It plays on his blind emotional fanbase (like you) as well as other fanbasees such as the ever emotional Mayweather diehards (who he cleverly references). Another excuse for them to grind the axe against Arum. He must have a good PR team.

Where in the video does cotto say anything about "swearing to his father"? Thats the main thing that cotto called arum a liar about. Cotto also said in the video, "Im a free agent. We work together. You know, we make arrangements & we work together the best we could"

Splitting hairs. Cotto is now saying that Arum did nothing for him and that it was all his own work. When a year ago, he said he owed his career to TR. The guy is clearly prone to flip-flopping.

He was willing to publicly state his pledge to stay with them, I don't see it being out of the realms of possibility that he swore on his father.
