Not long ago, the "sanctioning bodies" had a meeting on the issue of establishing an unified world champion...
... Under the present circumstances, I expect them to push forward in this direction...

      Hopefully.

There are 4 major titles, Haymon won't be getting rid of them, he'll be adding a 5th title.

It'll be WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO and PBC with PBC only open to like 6-7 fighter per division who are signed to Haymon.

WHere has Haymon announced there is a PBC belt? All I've read and heard is his series is deemphasizing the title belts of anyone who fights on the PBC series.

WHen his fighters fight on showtime, they will be defending/fighting for these titles-ie Gary Russell v Jhonny Gonzalez.

I'm speculating but belts are a staple of boxing, all champions have a belt unless they're going to wear a medal or something. You really think there won't be a belt added?

No I don't. It seems people think Haymon is trying to branch off and form his own "league".

I haven't seen anything that suggested that. His 1st card had a Goosen fighter on it.

He still has fighters who are fighting for sanctioning body belts-quillin, Russell, and has not forced any of his current champions-Thurman, Jacobs-to give up their belts.

WHat I was thinking might be a long term plan- and this is just a stretch on my part-is he could try to shift weight classes to reflect the growth of the average human. SO if he were to adjust weights (ex MW from 160-165, ww up to 150 etc.) then I could see him giving those guys belts.

But no, he isn't trying create his own title belts now.

Man new weight divisions as well as new belts? lol

It will be interesting to see how much is made of the WBO belt during the Quillin-Lee bout.

I think new weights might be a good thing and may be here after the sanctioning bodies unify the belts. It makes sense given the average size of humans has increased significantly since these weight classes were established. Wrestling changed weights a few years ago.

Yes. They said PBC would not be emphasizing belts. Maybe that is a tweak they make once they get the feedback from the 1st show.

I would be happy if they went with the rankings from the transitional boxing board to make fights.

I don't really get it though, if you can't make a certain weight class don't you just move up to the next one?

The weights are archaic though. It's easy to say you can't make 147 go up to 154. I'm wondering why WW is the same 147lb limit it was in 1915.

I think Olympic ww is max now is like 152 and has changed a few times since the early 1900's.

I think it makes things more competitive and it reflects the changes in average size.

I think the point Webbler is trying to make, is that they are just names. There are weight classes from sub 100 to 200+; Pick your comfortable fighting class and your set.

And I understand you being optimistic about the belt situation, but all the signs are unfortunately pointing in the other direction atm. Security yanked Thurman's title down after he put his life on the line for 12rounds and won in good fashion; Essentially making the entire show. Then we find that he and presumably other 'haymond' fighters are not even identifying with being sanction title holders on their social/promoting networks
