Comments Thread For: Abner Mares Decisions a Game Arturo Reyes

MGM Grand, Las Vegas - In a battle of Mexican Olympians, former three division world champion Abner Mares (29-1-1, 15KOs) had to overcome some bumps in the road to win a ten round unanimous decision over a game Arturo Reyes (18-5, 5KOs). The scores were 96-93, 98-91 and 99-90.

Mares was pacing himself in the first, staying on his toes. He dropped Reyes with a flash knockdown in the second. Reyes got up and started coming forward, trying to make it a street fight with Mares. The rounds were more competitive than many people expected.

    Tune up. .

All my points says he beats Jhonny, Walters, Donoaire or Vic.

I hate to say it but Mares is done, or at least close to it. Now he's having troubles beating up tune-ups. That KO from Gonzalez still lingers in the back of his head.

How? He's went the distance with lesser fighters playing it safe.

Well being sick explains why Mares didn't look too good. Decent performance considering the conditions.

Lol geez! So that's the treatment Mares gets for leaving Golden Boy? An off camera bout while everyone is exiting the building following the Thurman/Guerrero bout?

Mares did not win this fight.

He barely win, but He was outboxed by a smaller opponent, that does not use enhancers like him. Gonzalez beats him again faster than the first fight.Mares can't see ****,zero footwork or hip movements. Another Broner.

I still ride with Mares till the wheels come off - I won't forget all the great fights he's given us - but today he seemed really gunshy

I don't want to see him in against Jhonny Gonzalez - let that go

This will be completely overlooked and Mares will be labeled "bum" from here on out watch...
