That fight means about as much, maybe even less to SRLs legacy as Ali's loss to Berbick.
Leonard hadn't fought in over 5 yrs, was on the other side of 40. If they fought in '85 instead of '96, how u think the fight would've went?
Leonards prime, best yrs were '79-82. Macho fight was 15 yrs later, and even 7-8 yrs past his past prime rematch es v Hearns and Duran in '88, '89

I know how that fight would have gone had it been fought earlier in SRL's career. I also know that to many SRL fans that it was and still is heartbreaking to see Ray lose to Macho Man in the fashion which he did. Leonard's fans wanted Ray to give a lesson to Macho Man, and the exact opposite happened. Perhaps Ray's fans were kidding themselves, but Ray was the betting favorite, and it all went so very wrong. Realize that I am talking about fans who had followed Leonard since his Olympic gold medal days - fans that knew Ray was no longer young, but fans that still believed in Ray and what he meant to boxing throughout America, and perhaps for that reason were bothered by the loss more than they should have been.

But I have no idea why he stated that this is a 50/50 fight, when it clearly is not.

There is talking..... for whatever reason, opinions, headlines, popularity, whatever..... and, there is taking action..... such as putting your money where your mouth is.

Yesterday, 50-cent proved that almost all of the comments that he made toward Mayweather in the last 1-2 years..... were fueled by the taste of salt in his mouth, and the feeling of sand in his vagina..... coz when push comes to shove he dropped 1.6 mil on Mayweather.

No idea why Ray said that..... but I would bet my life that were someone to put a gun to his head, it would take him 1 second to pick a name, and it would most likely be the same name that 50 picked .
