Golovkin's handlers have done great up to this point. But as I said earlier: You get a talented guy, who's a champion, and he KO's people.... people will tune in no matter what. He was fighting irrelevant fighters in Germany early on his career which is why you can say "Look what his handlers did to him. He's on the verge of stardom in America," but if you look at where he was at before all that (fighting burger flippers in Europe)..... Ronald McDonald could have promoted him, all he had to do was bring him to America and get him an HBO date and the same thing would of happened.
His handlers need to be more aggressive (IMO) at this point. It's been almost 3 years. If he had Arum, De La Hoya.... he would of been SHOVED down everyone's throat until the big fights happen- and they certainly would of happened quicker then 3+ years (IMO). Instead, it feels like everyone involved with GGG is just coasting and "enjoying the ride," with knockout-after-knockout, they get richer, they live better, the ratings come in... and no further "risk" needs to happen. Big fights MAY happen later this year and all this would get thrown at the window. (yes I understand with all this said he has still been fighting "top fighters" at MW this whole time)
If you look at my post history for the past 2.5 years, I have said K2 and HBO have done a fantastic job with Golovkin. But he's past that point of "just get him exposure. knock everyone out and the big fights will come." He's already exposed, people know him. He's knocked out everyone. But the big fights haven't happened yet. At what point is it them just milking him for ratings?
