I suspect that part of the appeal of the throwback days is at least the appearance of fighters taking all comers. Many of us don't know the stories behind what fights would have been great to make, but never happened. Boxing today has a problem with match ups not being made. In twenty years will boxing talk remember classic wars? The classics I think about (I am 44) Leonard v Duran, Hagler v Hearns, Cooney v Holmes, insert your own list. Ponder the greats of the 00s and this decade... What will be there stand out battles?Comment

No, Mayweather already blatantly ducked Margarito & Cotto well before he ran off into retirement.Comment

This is complete BS sorry. There are plenty of great fighters from pre-1980's that stand up to any fighter from any era, including the modern one. I would say it's more around the 1930's-1940's where guys started to develop a "modern" style but I do think there are certain fighters from before that era that would still be effective today.Comment

The only logical explanation for any thread of this nature (and they tend to pop up a fair bit) is that the thread starter is still nursing a sore bottom from a severe spanking someone handed them in a debate involving one fairly modern fighter they like and one fighter of yesteryear.Comment

You also have to take into account modern medicine, modern training techniques etc which help today's fighters tremendously.
Last thing is there were less weight classes for fighters of yesteryear. None of these in between weight classes like you see today. So if someone was too big for lightweight, he went to Welterweight and more than likely had to face an ever bigger size disadvantage then if there was a junior welterweight class.Comment

Lmao at newbies.
Guys of yester year are tougher more
dedicated to their craft ,more skillful, fight more often.
They are more technically sound and have better defense.
better trainers as well. More heart And mental toughness.
Todays era right now is watered down.part time fighters and horrible trainers. Guys today want quick easy cash not legacy defining fights .guys today watch youtube on guys of yester year.guys today have dads and uncles and grandpas that watched yester year live.
To say floyd jr and pac would dominate is laughable.
they wouldnt have 30 years of film to study on their opponents .cause they would be in the era.no youtube,
No internet....
15 rd fights.
same day weigh ins.
no roy jones to study. No new school. Better refs.
Jack johnson was a marvel in his time like montana was in his. Liston had a piston jab . Long arms and styles make fights. He was better then you think..
Guys like pep beat pac and guys like hearns beat floydComment
