Comments Thread For: Kovalev's Trainer Respects Multi-Dimensional Pascal

Jean Pascal is not the Haitian-born light heavyweight from Quebec that Sergey Kovalev and his trainer truly wanted to fight next.

That doesn’t mean they don’t consider Pascal a legitimate threat to pull off an upset next month. Russia’s Kovalev (26-0-1, 23 KOs) is a 4-1 favorite approaching his IBF/WBA/WBO title fight against Pascal (29-2-1, 17 KOs, 1 NC) on March 14 in Montreal, but John David Jackson, the 31-year-old Kovalev’s trainer, isn’t interested in the odds.

Pascal is a good fighter with speed. If he doesn't gasses out he will be a problem for Kovalev

I have watched Pascal fight a few times, never thought that much of him, I don't recall seeing him land a meaningful power shot to the head of anybody, when he throws combinations they are wild and he looks off balance doing it. I think Kovalev will walk him down and take this fight pretty easy.

The last meaningful shot I saw Pascal land was against Hopkins in the final round of their 2nd fight and hurt Bernard and Pascal did nothing after landing that hit, never followed it up with anything.

This will be a great fight while it lasts. Jean is a pretty good fighter but I think Kovalev will knock him out around the 8th rd.

I think Kovalev is going into this fight pissed because of the drug testing talk. He's going to **** Pascal up. Pascal may have speed, but he has low activity, questionable stamina, and mediocre defense. That spells disaster against a fighter like Kovalev.

He'll need to hurt Kovalev early and often.

Pascal is a way more dangerous opponent that Stevenson. I got this as a 60-40 fight with Kovalev the favorite.
