  • Comments Thread For: Nacho: Pacquiao Has 45% Shot To Beat Mayweather

Nacho Beristain, trainer of former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez, is giving Manny Pacquiao a 45% chance of defeating unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The veteran coach trained Marquez for four fights with Pacquiao in 2004, 2008, 2011, 2012 - and also trained Juan for one fight with Mayweather in 2009.

Nacho sees Mayweather as a the favorite to win, because of his style. He doesn't view Pacquiao as being as big of an underdog as others do.

60/40 is more like it for me, its obviously and interesting style matchup which is half of what makes this such a big fight. it really needs to deliver in the excitement category since the entire world is gonna be tuning in. a normal floyd UD is gonna piss alot of people off after all this talk. the pressure is on pac to push him to the limit, while i want floyd to win i want him to earn it and show fans he can he can dig deep even though he has already shown that in previous wins.this is the one opponent nobody can really say much about if he wins big

People keep thinking Floyd's Timothy Bradley, but better, but you guys don't realize Floyd doesn't make you work your ass off like Bradley's and he doesn't throw nearly as much. Manny is going to look good in this fight, just like the Algieri fight, because of Floyd's inactivity, him not attacking you with a bull dog style, and Manny's sudden movmenet based style out of the south paw stance.

I'm rewatching a ton of old Floyd fights, and the common trait that his opponents have is they bring absolutely none or Manny's head movmenet. He's yet to fight that non stop, constant, bobbing and weaving style.

And don't bring up Hatton. He might move, but he doesn't Bob and weave at all. The guy just comes forward, and smothers you.

You've got to be shutting me. After the Bradley rematch, everyone was saying how Bradley was tagging Manny with the straight right, and imagine if that was Floyd, he's such a better boxer blah blah. Hell, even the first fight, people were talking about how Floyd was a better version if Bradley.

nacho makes a good point about Pac being smart.

It does takes intelligence and IQ to time the combinations, to position his body, and move his feet...and to know when to throw.

People don't understand..that Pac effectively reads his opponent and anticipates their moves.
