They probably figured pacquiao has won it enough times, why not give it to someone new

The BWAA is just trying to create a new star by awarding them the FOTY. Kovalev or Pacquiao would have been the better choice after they beat top rated contenders.

This is an acceptable choice, Crawford has had a good year. But folks please stop calling him the lineal lightweight champion. You actually have to beat the top guy(s) in your division to be the king and he hasn't done that. Beating Ray Beltran to become the "man" is borderline embarrassing. Most people considered Vasquez and Abril as the two best at 135.

Crawford (25-0, 17 KOs) will receive his Fighter of the Year Award at the BWAA’s 90th annual Awards Dinner in New York City, an event which many have described as the “Academy Awards of Boxing.” [Click Here To Read More]

He beat number 3 pound for pound undefeated fighter Tim Bradley, and then beat another undefeated champion, Chris algiero who war ring #3 light welter, and was top 5 in the other organizations. Better year than Crawford who bear beltrans leftovers, and Beltran. Gamboa was a good win but gamboa was moving up in weight.

            That's funny.....

3rd time in 4 years an American has won the award. 4th year in a row an American citizen has won the award. A European has won the award only once since 2000. Keep in mind boxing is dead in America and thriving in Europe.

Terrible choice. It's not all that impressive what he did. The Jap guy did much better.

Boxing Writers Association of AMERICA... if it was B.W.A. of Europe the award might have gone to Kovalev.
