It was a H.O.R.S.E. tournament. He sat to my immediate left. He was gone WAY before I was. I ended up finishing 13th. He was pretty good at Stud and Holdem, but he was terrible at Razz, which was my strong game, so he kept asking me advice.

He was mostly just there for his celebrity status. It was a series of tournaments. The "Denny Crum Poker Open" that they used to run at the Horseshoe Southern Indiana (right across the bridge from Louisville).

That is really cool. A friend of mine used to play a lot of tourneys back in the day. I recently asked him why he didn't play anymore and he said 1) everybody knows how to play now and 2) if they don't, they bet like idiots and win, which I took to mean he probably lost his ass.

Most of the time that's exactly what it means, lol. Never met a losing poker player. Tournaments are just such high variance. Very few people can play them profitably over the long haul. And those who do, likely spiked a huge one for a ton of money.
