Big part of it is his legs and stamina.

He can't fight going forward anymore because of his legs. He isn't athletic enough anymore to jump in. He can't dance around the ring. He tried to vs joe and gassed. Then he started dragging his feet around the ring like an old man should starting with the pavlik fight.


Mentally, where Hopkins and Floyd differ are that Hopkins thinks a lot about his opponent and his gameplan, whereas Floyd has claimed he doesn't watch tape and I believe him . Hopkins thinks about the things to the point that he overthinks . He starts seeing things that are not there.

And he is more of a chess player than Floyd. The right hand was open vs Taylor. He didn't throw it early on because he didn't want Taylor to realise he's open for it and then adjust. He waited until Taylor tired so that his onslaught would be more effective and Taylor wouldn't have time to adjust .
Floyd can rely more on his natural abilities.

I don't believe Floyd doesn't watch tape at all. At all. I remember that interview where he got and forced to admit he watched Pacquiao-Bradley.

Anyway, the point was that the younger Hopkins didn't wait for opponents to tire. He made them tire. And he did it in various ways. Mayweather does as well except he tends to play it safer in the championship rounds.

Floyd blatantly watches tapes. He can't even keep it a secret himself.

He's talked about so many fights in detail over the years, Hatton-Tszyu, Pacquaio-Cotto, Pacquaio-Bradley, Ortiz-Maidana, the list goes on.

He lies and says things like "I caught the tail end of Mosley-Margarito" and "I saw parts of Judah-Cotto and Mosley-Cotto and saw he was suceptible to uppercuts and a looping right"

He's blatantly watched all of those fights In full.

Floyd is a VERY big Pac fan and if he said differently he'd be freaking lying. That's why he's so focused. This won't be easy, though he may make it look that way.

Roach cancels sparring sessions, says Pacquiao doesn’t want to stop

For fear of Manny Pacquiao reaching peak form too soon, trainer Freddie Roach cancelled his student’s sparring sessions for Wednesday (Manila time).

In a report from PhilBoxing.com, Roach ordered that Pacquiao’s afternoon sparring sessions be cancelled and expressed his concern of the possibility that Pacquiao is over-trained and pushed to near over fatigue.

“As you know, Manny is a freak as far as training is concerned. While he knows how to prepare himself for a fight, he has the tendency to overdo things up,” Roach said. “Frankly, I really have no problem with him as far as training is concerned, my problem though is he doesn’t want to stop,” he said. “My problem, actually, is how to hold him back.”

Pacquiao will face arguably the best fighter that he can possibly fight in Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 2 at MGM Grand Garden Arena to unify the WBO, WBC, and WBA Welterweight titles and see who the greatest fighter of their era is.

Roach said the most he can do to stop Pacquiao from pushing himself too hard is to simply tell the eight-division World Champion to stop and rest.

He added that Pacquiao would often train further than what he intended for the day.

“Manny, you see is very energetic When he trains, he really trains as in he trains,“ Roach said. “Sometimes, during sparring, I would set a 10-round session, but he’ll still ask for one or two more rounds.”

“When we do the mitts for 12 rounds, he will ask for more and so on and so forth. I really have to put him to where he should be. I have to put the reign on him like a horse.”
